The International Leprosy Congress (ILC) is an important event held every 3–4 years in various parts of the world and brings together key stakeholders in the field of leprosy. At the last ILC held in Manila Philippines in 2019 the baton was handed over to India to hold the next ILC in India.
In view of the prevailing covid situation the congress will be held as a HYBRID CONGRESS with about 500–1000 physical delegates and unlimited possibilities for e-delegates. There will be an opportunity for more than 100 hours of scientific deliberations. The broad outline of the Congress is as below.
Web-based Sessions: November 8th Evening–10th Evening, 2022 (Tues to Thurs)
Physical & Plenary Sessions: November 9th Morning–11th Evening, 2022 (Wed to Fri)
Venue: HITEX Convention Centre, Hyderabad
Congress Timings:
IST 9.00 am–1.00 pm (GMT 3.30 am–7.30 am): Hybrid Plenary sessions with live web-feed;
IST 2.00 pm–4.30 pm (GMT 8.30 am–10.30 am): Physical Scientific Sessions in 3 halls (with limited live feed); and
IST 5.00 pm–10.00 pm (GMT 11.30 am–4.30 pm): Web-based Scientific Sessions to be hosted in 5–6 virtual halls
The venue has a large plenary hall with a capacity to accommodate over 2000 delegates, can comfortably accommodate >1000 while maintaining necessary social distancing if required, The venue also has suitable meeting halls for breakout sessions, pre-congress meetings, workshops, or consultations. The HITEX centre is also located close to the Novotel Hotel and other similar hotels, suitable for both accommodation and for pre-congress meetings.
The Congress is being jointly organized by the Indian Association of Leprologists (IAL), The Indian Association of Dermatologists, Venereologists & Leprologists (IADVL), the Central Leprosy Division (CLD) NLEP and under the auspicious of the International Leprosy Association (ILA), which is also the international organising committee of ILC 2022, with Dr David Scollard as its scientific chair. The local organizing team is steered by Dr Bhushan Kumar, Chair Organizing Committee; Dr P Narasimha Rao, Organizing Secretary; Dr VM Katoch, Chair, Scientific Committee; and Dr Sujai Suneetha and Dr Sunil Dogra, Scientific Secretaries.
The congress will draw all national and International stakeholders including persons affected by leprosy, program managers, scientists, leprosy field workers etc. among others. The timings of the web-based sessions were decided so as to suit the global audience. The partnership and support of all stakeholders is essential for successful planning and implementation of the congress.
